Hand Care Tips

Hands are susceptible to the first signs of aging and age faster than the face yet rarely receive the same care as your face. It is necessary to play a little extra attention to your hands if you want them to look good.

Hand Skin Problems

– Dry, cracked, or chapped hands: Your hands come in contact with water, chemicals, detergents, cold weather, and so on. These elements cause your hand skin to become dry and cracked. Dry hands are a common problem along with flakiness, itching, and a feeling of tightness.

– Eczema: Household cleansers, detergents, aftershave lotions, soap, gasoline, turpentine, and other solvents make your hand eczema flares up.

– Liver spots, or brown spots: Too much exposure to the sun triggers the melanin production, causing liver spots on hands.

– Wrinkles: Skin on the back of the hands is much thinner than that on your face. There are very little fat, collagen, and elastin fibers on your hand skin. Thinner skin and sun exposure make wrinkles appear on your hands faster than any other parts of your body.

Hand Care Tips

– Apply hand lotion ever time after you wash them.

– Wear sunscreen at least SPF 15 several times a day. Sunscreen can prevent brown spots over 90 percent of the time.

– Wear rubber gloves when you garden or do heavy housework. If you have eczema, wear cotton gloves underneath rubber gloves. The cotton will soak up sweat from your hands.

– Wear gloves to protect your hands from cold weather.

– Scrub your hands with facial exfoliator or homemade exfoliator once a week.

– Use mild pH soap (pH of 7) when washing your hands. You skin has pH of between 4 and 6.5 so using high pH soap can dry out and age your hand skin.
