Skin Care Regimen

Everyone wants to have healthy, beautiful skin. Skin care regimen helps maintain and prevent your healthy skin. Each step of skin care regimen is important because it works and benefits your skin differently.

Clean Your Face

The first step is to clean your face to remove dirt, oil, and makeup. This step also helps prepare your skin before applying moisturizer so that the moisturizer will better penetrate into your skin.

Makeup remover. To get positive results, you need to know how to remove makeup properly. Use eye makeup remover to remove all traces of eye makeup. Eye makeup removers are specifically designed to get rid or sticky and waterproof makeup around delicate eye area.

Clean your face with makeup remover. Makeup removers contain oil. Makeup gets removed when it comes in contact with oil. You may skip this step if you use facial cleanser that is oil based.

Facial cleanser. Choose facial cleanser that is the best fit for your skin. If you have oily skin, you should use foaming or gel cleansers because they dry out your skin. If you have dry skin, cleansing liquid or creams are best for you. If you have combination skin, you can choose either.

If you have acne or sensitive skin, choose a facial cleanser that contains the right ingredients for your skin. Facial cleansers that contain Salicylic Acid such as Murad Clarifying Cleanser or Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash help the outer layer of the skin to shed, thereby unclogging pores and clearing breakouts. For sensitive skin, choose a facial cleanser that is fragrance free in order to avoid irritating the skin.

Skin Toner. Toners help remove all remaining traces of oil, dirt, and makeup but a good cleanser should do so. So, it is up to you whether to use a toner or not.

Exfoliation is the important step in your weekly skincare routine. Exfoliation helps remove dead skin cells, dirt, oil, and bacteria that can cause breakouts and enlarged pores. Exfoliation also makes your skin glowing by getting rid of dead skin cells and promoting new healthy looking skin.

Moisturize Your Skin

Serum. Facial serums penetrate into deeper layers of your skin that a regular moisturizer is not able to reach because facial serums have smaller molecules than moisturizers. You can choose serums such as anti-aging serums or skin brightening serums that best fit for your need.

Eye creams/gels. You can apply your facial moisturizer around the eye area but it is better to use eye cream/gel. Eye creams/gels are designed to reduce puffiness and dark circles so they may contain ingredients in which regular facial moisturizers do not have.

Moisturizers hydrate your skin and seal moisture into skin. You need to apply facial moisturizer even though you have oily or acne-prone skin. It is up to you to use a single moisturizer for day and night or use day cream and night cream separately. Day creams are lightweight and dry fast while night creams penetrate deeper and usually are more moisturizing.

Protect Your Skin

Sunscreen. Apply sunscreen to protect your skin from UV rays. UVA rays cause skin aging, wrinkles, age spots, and skin cancer while UVB rays cause burning and the acceleration of skin aging. Choose sunscreen that provides broad-spectrum protection or UVA/UVB protection. Apply sunscreen 20-30 minutes before you go out in the sun.
